    Job Description
    The City of Burlington is seeking hardworking, motivated individuals for this position. $15.00 hourly, prorated sick/vac/holiday, PERS retirement; average of 48 hours per week, up to 120 hours per month. Requires high school diploma/GED; must be 21 years by hire date; IFSAC Firefighter I & EMT required.

    Special Requirements

    • High School Diploma or GED required. • Must be 21 years of age by the date of hire. • Must be eligible to work in the United States. • Must be able to read and speak English. • Good physical condition and ability to obtain a passing score on physical agility test. • Passing score on respirator medical questionnaire and medical evaluation. • Pass a physical examination including a pre-employment drug screen. • Submit to a background investigation prior to being hired. • No felony convictions or disqualifying criminal history as defined in City Policy. • Must have a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record. • Must obtain a State of Washington driver’s license within 6 months of hire date. • Must hold a current IFSAC or equivalent Firefighter I certificate. • Must hold a current IFSAC or equivalent Hazardous Materials Operation certificate. • Must show proof of completion for EVIP initial course. • Must hold a current National Registry or Washington State EMT-B certificate. • Subject to 12 month probationary period. • Prefer IFSAC or equivalent Firefighter II certification.

    Miscellaneous Information

    IMPORTANT DATES TO CONSIDER: Individuals selected for a position with the Burlington Fire Department will be required to attend 96-hour fire academy. The academy will be held from March 15, 2021 through March 31, 2021. Upon completion of the academy, individuals will then be required to participate in six 12-hour shadow shifts and three 24-hour shadow shifts. Shadow shifts dates and times are predetermined at the time of hire.
