• EDASC Golf Tournament canceled

    June 23, 2020
After careful consideration and discussion, EDASC has decided to cancel its fundraiser, the 33rd Annual EDASC Golf Tournament and 19th Hole Virtual Awards Dinner on July 24, due to public health concerns and a lack of participation.

The decision was not made lightly, and EDASC shares your disappointment. As many of you are aware, EDASC has for the last year put great effort into revitalizing and improving our events, and this latest, but necessary, cancellation stings.

For the past 33 years, the business community has enjoyed coming together for this fun and social event to support EDASC’s mission of sustainable and inclusive economic development.

We are grateful for those businesses who have registered teams or signed up as sponsors, especially in this uncertain economic environment. Your continued support, even amid the COVID-19 crisis, is extremely appreciated and does not go unnoticed.

But, COVID-19 and its health and economic impacts have weighed heavily on this event. We also suspect the tournament lost some of its unique appeal with the elimination of social aspects, such as the awards dinner, due to COVID-19 concerns. All these factors resulted in significantly lower-than-expected participation.

It has become clear from our conversations that many of the businesses that usually participate in and sponsor our Golf Tournament aren’t ready to commit to this event now, under the present uncertain public health and economic circumstances.

Meanwhile, EDASC is busier than ever addressing the economic impacts caused by COVID-19. We are administering several small business grant programs, marshaling resources for Skagit County businesses, nonprofits, and governments, developing the county’s economic recovery strategic plan, continuing to provide confidential one-on-one support to businesses, and much more.

To host this long-running fundraiser and lose money or merely break even would do a disservice to our mission, our investors and our entire community, especially when one factors in the immense staff time associated with planning and executing the event.

For those of you who have already registered to participate in or sponsor the golf tournament, EDASC is happy to provide multiple options to either put the money to use or to receive a refund.

    Here are the options:
    • Apply the funds toward becoming an EDASC Investor, increasing your existing Investor level, or making a payment on next year’s investment.
    • Donate to EDASC, a 501c3. You may also specify it be applied to Leadership Skagit or its scholarship funds.
    • Apply the funds to next year’s golf tournament or a TBD future event.
    • Request a full refund.
Please contact EDASC Program Support Coordinator Sunny Siers at sunny@skagit.org about one of these options. We look forward to hearing from you.

Once again, we are disappointed to make this announcement, though we feel it is the necessary and responsible choice. We look forward to hosting the 2021 EDASC Golf Tournament and 19th Hole and with you, making it the best yet!
