• Rep. Rick Larsen visits SVC’s new Dental Therapy Education lab

    November 02, 2022

(Mount Vernon, Wash.) –– Washington state Rep. Rick Larsen from the 2nd Congressional District visited Skagit Valley College’s Dental Therapy Education lab Oct. 26.

Larsen met with all six students from the first cohort of the dəxʷx̌ayəbus-Dental Therapy Education Program and toured the new lab.

SVC and the Swinomish Indian Tribal Community partnered to launch the first Dental Therapy Education program in Washington state to address the ongoing oral health workforce disparities among underrepresented minorities, specifically, the American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) communities.

After a decade of advocacy, collaboration, planning, developing and implementation between Swinomish and SVC, the Dental Therapy Program was recently granted accreditation by the Commission on Dental Accreditation. It is the first of its kind in the lower 48 contiguous states to receive accreditation.
