    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Skagit County seeking input on draft Stormwater Management Program Plan

Today, Skagit County opened its draft 2022 Stormwater Management Program (SWMP) Plan for public comment. You can find the full draft plan here: https://bit.ly/37GJulA.

Under the Western Washington Phase II Municipal Stormwater Permit, Skagit County is allowed to discharge stormwater runoff (like rain running off our roads) into the State’s water bodies, such as streams, rivers, and lakes. One annual requirement of that permit is to create a SWMP Plan and make it available to the public to communicate stormwater-related actions and outreach events planned each year by the County.

Past and recurring events include Salmon Fest and Mount Vernon High School Science Night. “The biggest changes happening in Skagit County’s Stormwater Management Program for 2022 is that we are working hard on a Stormwater Planning project and creating a source control program for existing development,” said Jason Quigley, Stormwater Permit Program Coordinator. “Both of these requirements have deadlines early next year.”

Comments are accepted via email to jasonq@co.skagit.wa.us or by mail to 1800 Continental Place, Mount Vernon, WA 98273.

The comment period closes at end-of-day on May 13, 2022. A final version of the SWMP Plan will be posted by May 31, 2022. For questions or more details, please contact Jason Quigley at jasonq@co.skagit.wa.us or call 360-416-1463.
