• Thanks to you, Keys for Kids was a huge success!

    July 12, 2019

What a couple of nights under the Skagit sky! This year, Keys for Kids provided a unique experience that will linger long after the final note was played on Saturday night, with stories of both evenings sure to be re-told countless times year after year. Over the weekend, 250 Club supporters came together and raised more than $100,000 to create opportunities for those kids and teens to realize their #GreatFuture! We are so grateful to this community for the belief in our mission and commitment of support to fulfilling it. This support is well worthy of celebration and applause: Thank you! Because of you, our Clubs are serving greater numbers of youth with continuously improving programs that are inspiring careers.

Marathon Refining Corporation celebrated its 5th year as our presenting sponsor. They have been with us since the beginning. With the investment of Marathon, our Baby Grand Sponsor Dwayne Lane’s Auto Family, and all of our other sponsors and corporate underwriters, each dollar contributed through Key Kards, Song Requests, and Bids for Kids goes directly to support our kids and teens in the Clubhouses from Concrete to Anacortes and all through the Skagit Valley.

Our Keys for Kids weekend started off in a big way on Friday morning. Annette Booth, Past-President of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Skagit County, leveraged her relationships as an Allstate agent and spearheaded a team of agents to help with set-up, which came with a $5,000 Helping Hands Grant. Big thanks to Annette, Dennis K., Sean, Brian, and Dennis B. for your help and hustle that morning, relieving a lot of pressure from our staff, and for your wonderful corporate philanthropy to kick things off!

This year continued the trend of new guests showing up to be wowed by what they find inside the gardens at Keys for Kids, echoing the experience many youth have when they walk into our Boys & Girls Clubs for the first time, often because a friend had convinced them to give it a try. This is a true testament to the Skagit community’s belief in the Clubs’ mission and passion for a good time in support of a great cause—in this case, Great Futures.

The presence of dynamic Club Members in the early portion of the event really tied the theme of the evening directly to our Mission: to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. The Lip Sync Battle was phenomenal and really brought the house down. But more than that, youth celebrated Pride Month, spoke eloquently about the meaningful impact the Club has on their lives, and demonstrated just how valuable Boys & Girls Clubs are to our communities. They shared how Power Hour helps them stay ahead in their schoolwork, how SMART programs help them feel more confident in themselves and their decision making, and how Keystone Club helps them become servant leaders in their community.

As we look forward to what is to come—for Keys for Kids, for the Skagit Clubs, and most importantly for our Club Members—we know that, thanks to all of you, the future will be great.
