Village Concepts of Sedro-Woolley at Country Meadow Village executive director Sandra Jensen and program director David Bricka presented a check for $1,500.00 to Renee Corcoran, Jackie Cress, Ellen Schweigert and Kelli Perry, representatives of Skagit County Meals on Wheels on behalf of the residents and staff at a recent gathering at the local retirement community.
The funds were raised from their annual Mother’s Day Brunch and proceeds from Kathy’s Kloset, a consignment shop set up by staffer Kathy Richter for the residents and staff.
The Meals on Wheels program of Skagit County is one of the few in Washington State that serves hot meals to seniors in the community that have difficulty leaving their homes, or are unable to prepare meals on their own.  The meals are prepared at their central kitchen and are distributed through the local Senior Centers in the County.
Since 2009, Country Meadow Village has donated over $25,000.00 to various non-profit organizations as part of the greater philanthropy of their parent company Village Concepts.  Some of the groups benefiting have been the Brigid Collins Family Support Center and the recent capital campaign for the Skagit Valley Family YMCA.  “Our residents really feel like they are making a difference in the community when they shop at Kathy Kloset,” Bricka stated after the gathering.  “It gives them a sense of purpose and belonging that really brings retirement to life.”
