Burlington Chamber of Commerce CEO, Steph Vervaart, in partnership with Mount Vernon Chamber of Commerce CEO, Andy Mayer, endorsed Community Action of Skagit County’s pilot project called Cascade Landing. The project is meant to address the challenge of housing shortages. The most rising demand is for lower-priced housing for low-moderate income households.

The Cascade Landing model is to renovate existing commercial space to provide 35 beautiful, energy efficient homes. Community Action will work with local government, for-profit developers, and the community to create housing people can afford. The partnership of nonprofit with for profit organizations provides significant economic advantages to the community.

The project will convert the second story of a 27,000 square foot commercial building into small residential rental units that will house approximately 45 people. Rent will be scaled to require no more than 30% of a tenant’s income, providing permanent long-term housing. The apartment homes are for young families, workers, veterans, and others.
