  • Letter in support of Skagit Transit

In October, 2021, Skagit Transit requested money from the Federal Transit Administration’s 2021 Bus and Bus Facilities grant program in order to complete their Maintenance Operations and Administration Facility Project. Burlington Chamber of Commerce CEO, Steph Vervaart, wrote and signed a letter in support of this grant.

This new facility is vital to not only maintaining the current levels of transit but also preparing for the growing need in the community for public transportation. Skagit Transit not only provides a network of local transit routes but also connects Skagit to neighboring transit agencies such as Whatcom Transportation Authority.

The project is being completed in three phases, and Skagit Transit is currently in phase one. It addresses constraints in space for staff and equipment, allows for relocating fleet and other publicly funded assets from the nearby flood plain, and assists in maintaining a state of good repair of the entire transit system.
The Burlington Chamber is in full support of Skagit Transit services and recognizes the need for this facility. The Facility will enable the transit system to keep pace with current and future public transportation needs in Burlington and in neighboring counties in Northwest Washington.
