    Name: Orca Recovery Work Party
    Date: November 10, 2018
    Time: 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM PST
    Event Description:
Puget Sound’s Southern Resident Killer Whales are critically endangered. Puget Sound Conservation Districts work every day to make conditions better for local orcas and are now presenting a region wide event to give everyone the opportunity to join in this work. Join Skagit Land Trust and your local Conservation District on Saturday November 10, 2018 and help recover this iconic species. We will be doing a work party at our Barney Lake location, planting trees along Trumpeter Creek. The trees we plant will grow to provide shade and habitat for Chinook salmon. These Chinook, after maturing, will work their way down Trumpeter Creek to the Skagit River and eventually to the Puget Sound. These fish are the primary food source for our resident whales, ensuring that there is healthy salmon population is essential to survival of our orcas. SLT will provide refreshments and water. Please dress for the weather, if you are need of rain boots or have any questions about this event, please email us at volunteer@skagitlandtrust.org. Plan on the site being very muddy! This is a collaboration of events to try and help our struggling orca population.
