As the sun sets, 4 to 5 massive hot air balloons slowly come to life across the field. There’s no rush and no loud distractions, just the quiet build of anticipation as pilots begin firing their burners and the balloons start to glow from within. One by one, they illuminate the night sky, creating waves of color, warmth, and movement that feel almost surreal when you’re standing right underneath them.
What makes this experience truly special is how close you can get. Guests are invited to walk among the balloons, watch the crews in action, talk with the pilots, and feel the heat of the burners as they ignite above you. It’s a rare opportunity to experience something this immersive in such an open and relaxed setting.

The Smoke & Grill BBQ Competition, presented by NextEra Energy and sanctioned by the Pacific Northwest BBQ Association, brings together 30+ pitmasters from across the Pacific Northwest for a full weekend of competition and sampling at Skagit River Park in Burlington.
🔥 Saturday, June 20 – Public Sampling Day
• 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM or until sold out
• Early entry for pre-sale tickets begins at 11:00 AM
• Day-of ticket sales begin at 12:00 PM
Spend the day tasting a wide variety of BBQ samples, sides, desserts, and more while meeting competitors and exploring their signature flavors. This is the best day to experience the full range of offerings.

• Ticket sales begin at 11:30 AM
On Sunday, sample competition meats only, including chicken, pork ribs, pork butt, and beef brisket. Availability is limited and based on competition results, so come early.
🏆 The Competition
BBQ teams compete in four categories: pork butt, beef brisket, chicken, and pork ribs for a chance at Grand Champion, Reserve Grand Champion, and top placements, judged by the Pacific Northwest BBQ Association.
