Burlington Artisan and Agriculture Market Takes Root: Celebrating Our First Season

After years of anticipation, we launched the inaugural Burlington Artisan and Agriculture Market (BAAM) this year. The market has been held on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Railroad Park, behind the Burlington Skagit Byway Visitor Center downtown Burlington, Washington.  

The idea grew from the Burlington Chamber of Commerce’s search for new ways to connect commerce with community. Supporting local artisans and small farms is a meaningful way to advance that mission. 

Growing Our Vendor Community 

On July 11, a small group of vendors decided to give the market a try and move forward. We began with six vendors and grew to around 12 over the summer. 

Some of our market features: 

• A local author: Burnt Wick Press/Shawn Winchell 

• Baked goods from Brauns Bakes and Evergreen Treats 

• 3D models and toys from DC3D 

• Custom-made tumblers, tote bags, plushies, jewelry, and more 

• Local produce and beautiful flowers from the heart of the Skagit Valley

We also had DJ Chris Campbell of Grooving Entertainment join us, along with United General Hospital and Viva Farms. 

Looking Ahead to Next Year 

Next year we plan to grow the whole market experience. We hope to begin the market in May and expand opportunities for community connection. Our goals include: 

• Welcoming more community nonprofit and service groups to engage with customers 

• Inviting vendors and growers of all sizes to participate 

• Bringing in more entertainment and a family fun zone to showcase local talent on our stage and have activities for kids and kids at heart.  

• Securing sponsorship support to help the market grow and thrive.

After a successful summer, the final Burlington Artisan and Agriculture Market (BAAM) of the season is this Saturday, September 26. If you haven’t visited yet, this is your last chance this year to discover local crafts, fresh food, and community favorites. 

Make a morning of it: enjoy breakfast, brunch, or lunch at one of our downtown restaurants, then walk over to see what the market has to offer. While you’re downtown, take a quick tour of the Visitor Information Center and explore what the Byway Center has to offer.
